Charges Innocent bystander on a date was 1 of 2 killed in mass shooting as Minneapolis bars closed
Lamarion Torando Shirley has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with a mass shooting that occurred in downtown Minneapolis. The incident took place near N. 5th Street and Hennepin Avenue shortly before 2 a. m. on September 21, 2024, resulting in the deaths of Benjamin Haggray, 20, and Lunden Marcel Woodberry, 21.
Shirley is also charged with four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of illegal gun possession. Police reports indicate that multiple fights broke out among crowds exiting nearby bars, leading to the gunfire that injured several others, including two girls aged 16 and 17. A "ghost gun" was found near Woodberry, and law enforcement determined that it had a malfunctioning switch that could make it fully automatic. Shirley's attorney has been contacted for a response to the allegations, and he remains in custody with a bail set at $1 million. This shooting underscores ongoing concerns about gun violence in urban areas, particularly during late-night hours.
