Minneapolis police seek help to determine if fatal shooting of man on scooter was random
A shooting in the 2100 block of Dupont Avenue in north Minneapolis early Friday resulted in the death of a man in his 20s and left another injured. Preliminary reports indicate that the two men were riding electric scooters when they heard gunfire, causing one to collapse and the other to call 911. The victim was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police Chief Brian O'Hara stated that investigators are working urgently to establish the motive behind the shooting and have requested public assistance. This incident occurred shortly after city officials announced increased patrols and road closures to mitigate Fourth of July violence.
O'Hara emphasized that these measures proved successful last year in disrupting problematic behavior during celebrations. So far this year, Minneapolis has recorded 28 homicides, a slight decrease compared to 35 at the same time last year.
