At least four tornadoes ripped through Carver County

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

Carver County experienced four confirmed tornadoes on Saturday night, with the strongest reaching EF1 status and winds of 95 miles per hour. Thousands lost power due to the storm, with over 1,700 residents still affected as of Sunday evening. The winds also caused severe flooding in Canby, prompting local emergency management to warn of impassable roads. The Minnesota River is under a flood warning, and the South Fork Crow River is expected to crest mid-week. Casey Namken, the county’s emergency management director, noted that recent heavy rains contributed to the flooding challenges.

The Weather Service confirmed that a third EF0 tornado occurred south of Waconia, and another EF0 was reported south of Cologne. Residents are advised to prepare for potential isolated showers and storms early this week. The situation underscores the ongoing weather-related challenges facing the region.
