Roadwork closing parts of three Twin Cities freeways will make for difficult weekend travel

MnDOT will close parts of Interstates 94, 35W, and 494 from Friday night to Monday morning for essential bridge repairs and removals. This weekend's closures will complicate travel, particularly for those attending the TC Pride festival downtown. Hurd emphasized the importance of planning ahead, suggesting attendees use resources on the TC Pride website for smoother access. Specific closures include eastbound I-494 between Hwy. 100 and I-35W, and westbound I-494 between Cedar Avenue and Hwy.

100, with closures starting as early as 8 p. m. Friday. In St. Paul, crews will address structural cracks on nine bridges along I-94 and I-35E, aiming for completion before next year’s construction on Hwy.

280. MnDOT plans to demolish the John Ireland Boulevard Bridge after the Twin Cities Marathon, necessitating further closures. Walker noted that despite the simultaneous closures, adequate detour routes exist that should minimize inconvenience. Motorists are advised to check MnDOT’s 511 maps for updates and to allow extra travel time.
