Roper Momentum is building for a rebirth of Uptown
The revitalization of Minneapolis’ Uptown area is gaining traction as residents gather to envision its future. Recent events at the Granada Theater and Seven Points mall have drawn sizable crowds interested in discussing new opportunities. Peter Remes, who purchased the former Apple Store building, described Uptown as a “clean slate” ready for growth. Panelists acknowledge that the area has suffered from business closures and social unrest but emphasize the importance of establishing a unique identity. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey noted that Uptown has rebounded more slowly than other neighborhoods.
The Uptown Association is spearheading efforts to attract 30 to 40 new businesses while launching initiatives like a farmers market. A developer plans to construct a new apartment building on Hennepin Avenue, further signaling investment in the area. Community leaders express hope that Uptown can capture its historic, youthful spirit in its next chapter.
