Mill Creek City Council Moves to Amend Housing Code for Compliance with State Laws
The Mill Creek City Council met on April 1, 2025, to discuss important amendments to the housing code concerning middle housing and Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). These amendments are necessary to comply with state laws HB 1110 and HB 1337, which require cities to ease restrictions on these types of housing. Community Development Director Ryan indicated that around one in five homes in the city currently qualifies as middle housing and emphasized the need for more diverse housing options. The council explored the potential impacts of these changes, especially in areas not under homeowners associations. Mayor Pro Tem Vignal requested visual examples of how the amendments could alter properties of various sizes.
Although no formal votes were taken, public hearings are planned to gather input from residents. The council aims for final adoption of these amendments by late May or early June, potentially reshaping the housing landscape in Mill Creek.
