Mill Creek Council Explores Youth Services Enhancement with Boys and Girls Club
The Mill Creek City Council convened on March 25, 2025, to discuss enhancing youth services, focusing on the potential establishment of a Boys and Girls Club in the community. During the meeting, Executive Director Bill Tsoukalos highlighted the club's successful programs, which include sports, arts, and providing free meals for local teens. Council members, including Duque and Steckler, stressed the importance of assessing community needs to tailor services effectively. They pointed out existing recreational programs are often private and financially inaccessible to many families, creating a gap that the Boys and Girls Club could fill. Tsoukalos noted that their annual membership dues are kept low at $30 to eliminate barriers to entry for youth.
The discussion concluded with a commitment to analyze existing youth programs and gather data on community needs, setting the stage for future deliberations. Councilmember Cavaleri remarked on the club's proficiency in collaborating with city initiatives, marking a positive step forward for Mill Creek's youth. Mayor Brian Holtzclaw expressed gratitude to Tsoukalos for sharing valuable insights about the organization.
