Middle Housing Study Update
At a recent City Council meeting, Mayor Brian Holtzclaw addressed community concerns about the Middle Housing study and House Bill 1110, which seeks to promote diverse housing options in Mill Creek. The Middle Housing study aims to assess existing housing types and identify parcels that could potentially accommodate new developments like duplexes and townhomes. Although the study is a vital tool for future planning, it will not result in immediate changes to city codes or policies. The Council is currently awaiting guidance from the Department of Commerce regarding the implementation of HB 1110. Mayor Holtzclaw stressed the importance of community engagement and transparency as they navigate these changes.
Residents are encouraged to attend the next City Council meeting and participate in "City Chat" sessions with city officials to ask questions. Such interactions will help clarify any uncertainties surrounding middle housing and its implications for the community. For more information, residents can visit the dedicated Middle Housing website.
