Annexation to South County Fire on Mill Creek Election Ballots in April
The Mill Creek City Council has unanimously decided to place a resolution for annexation into South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue on the April 2022 election ballot. This decision comes after careful consideration of fire and emergency medical service options, with South County Fire emerging as the most cost-effective provider. Councilmember Stephanie Vignal emphasized the importance of maintaining quality emergency services while minimizing costs. If the annexation is approved, the City Council has pledged to reduce property tax collections by $4. 3 million in 2023, matching the amount previously spent on fire and EMS services.
Conversely, if voters reject the annexation, the City may have to raise taxes to cover increasing contract costs. Scott Harder, the city’s communications coordinator, highlighted the potential service cuts that could occur if annexation fails. The annexation would not only ensure continued quality services but also eliminate the City’s role as an intermediary in funding. South County Fire, which operates multiple stations in proximity to Mill Creek, is poised to provide seamless emergency response services if the annexation is approved.
