Everything was just so surreal, Victim involved in I-5 overpass crash speaks out
A devastating incident on the I-5 overpass resulted in the death of a 26-year-old man and injuries to several others after an SUV fell onto the freeway, leading to multiple collisions. The Washington State Patrol arrested a 30-year-old driver, who is facing felony hit-and-run charges and has a suspended license. Victim Robert Akhtar shared his terrifying experience, recalling the moment he saw the SUV fall, stating, "I said, ‘Oh my god this is it. We are gone. ’" Miraculously, the SUV only clipped the front of his vehicle, allowing him and his wife to escape serious harm.
The WSP has confirmed that erratic driving caused the crash, ruling out drugs and alcohol as factors. Akhtar emphasized the tragedy of the situation, noting how life can change in an instant. The driver has a court appearance scheduled, with bail set at $100,000, although he currently does not face vehicular homicide charges. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek additional witnesses to the crash.
