South County Fire Annexation Update

Mill Creek, WALocal News

Mill Creek residents will have the opportunity to vote on Proposition 1 during the April 26, 2022, Special Election, which seeks to annex the city to South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue Regional Fire Authority. City officials are actively informing the community about the potential benefits, stating that the proposed annexation would be the most cost-effective option for local property owners. Importantly, no firefighter jobs will be lost as a result of this transition; both South County Fire and the current provider are committed to retaining their personnel, with South County Fire actively recruiting 60 new firefighters. The Mill Creek Fire Station is set to remain fully staffed, ensuring that emergency response capabilities will not diminish. Under the annexation terms, the Mill Creek Fire Station will become a part of South County Fire's assets, while the city will not provide any emergency apparatus.

Additionally, South County Fire has four other stations in proximity to Mill Creek, enhancing overall service coverage. Firefighters from South County Fire are already familiar with the area due to existing mutual aid agreements, ensuring seamless emergency responses. This strategic move aims to enhance public safety and service efficiency for Mill Creek's residents.
