Recycling, Compost, Garbage

Mercer Island, WALocal News

Recology initiated curbside recycling, composting, and garbage services for Mercer Island residents on October 1, 2019, under a 10-year contract awarded by the City Council in December 2018. This decision followed a competitive request for proposals (RFP) process aimed at enhancing waste management services. Residents can contact Recology's hotline at 206-381-6980 for service issues, missed collections, or account inquiries. Weekly collections include compost and garbage, while recycling services are provided every other week. The city also hosts bi-annual recycling events, funded through King County grants, to collect hard-to-recycle items.

An E-Cycle Washington location is available for residents to recycle electronics. The city emphasizes proper disposal practices and encourages donating usable items to their Thrift Shop, which supports social services programs. For additional information, residents can view the collection calendar and the city's snow and ice response plan online.
