WSDOT Closure of I-90 Eastbound On-Ramp at East Mercer Way

Mercer Island, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close the I-90 Eastbound on-ramp at East Mercer Way and the HOV on-ramp at 80th Ave. SE beginning September 18 for essential roadway repairs. The East Mercer Way on-ramp closure is expected to last 6 to 8 days, while the HOV on-ramp will be closed for 16 days. This closure is necessary to replace failing expansion joints on the East Channel Bridge, impacting traffic flow significantly. WSDOT anticipates substantial backups on I-90 due to one lane being closed, and drivers should expect major delays.

Crews will work 24/7 to expedite the project, which is expected to be completed by October 5. The decision for a continuous closure stems from the extensive nature of the repairs, which cannot be safely conducted during limited nighttime hours or weekends. Local commuters face difficulties accessing I-90 and navigating detour routes during this period. For further information, drivers can contact WSDOT’s Northwest Office.
