City adopts 450 million biennial budget for 2025-2026

The Marysville City Council has adopted a balanced biennial budget of $450 million for 2025-2026 during its meeting on November 25. This budget underscores the city's commitment to fiscal responsibility, particularly in a time of economic uncertainty. Mayor Jon Nehring emphasized the importance of maintaining essential city services while only adding two new positions—a civil attorney and a wastewater treatment plant operator. A 5% increase in rates for water, sewer, and stormwater services will take effect in January 2025, translating to an additional $9. 61 per bimonthly billing for typical customers.

However, garbage, recycling, and yard waste rates will remain unchanged. Notably, the council has chosen not to take advantage of the 1% property tax increase allowed by law for the 13th consecutive year, reflecting their dedication to keeping costs low. Council President Michael Stevens expressed gratitude for a budget that does not burden citizens with increased taxes. This prudent financial planning is expected to benefit the community as it navigates ongoing economic challenges.
