MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department launched an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to combat animal abuse, training over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its September start. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasized that the program's primary goal is to remove animals from abusive situations and provide them with medical care. Developed with Pasado’s Safe Haven, the curriculum aims to foster accountability among offenders. Vasconi expressed his deep passion for animal welfare, stating that animals rely on humans for their basic needs. The training has reportedly resulted in increased animal rescues and the apprehension of suspects involved in cruelty cases.
The Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi, focuses on enforcing state laws against animal crimes. Residents are urged to report any observed animal cruelty by calling 911. This initiative signifies a proactive approach to protecting vulnerable animals in the community.
