MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program, initiated in September, has trained over 460 officers across nearly 70 agencies to tackle animal abuse. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasized the program's mission to rescue animals from harmful situations while providing necessary medical care. This initiative has resulted in more animals being saved and increased accountability for abusers. Vasconi's commitment to animal welfare stems from a lifelong passion for advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves. Participants have reported positive experiences with the training, underscoring its effectiveness and importance.
The collaboration between the Marysville Police and Pasado's Safe Haven has proven impactful in the community. The Community Service Unit, which includes a reserve police officer specializing in animal crimes, responds to numerous cruelty complaints each year. Residents are urged to report any instances of animal cruelty by calling 911 immediately.
