MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department initiated an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to enhance the response to animal abuse cases. Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the primary goal is to rescue animals from cruel circumstances and ensure they receive medical attention. The program, developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has enrolled nearly 70 agencies and trained over 460 officers since its launch in September. This initiative has led to an increase in animal rescues and greater accountability for offenders. Vasconi highlighted his dedication to animal welfare, describing the need to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves.
The Community Service Unit, which includes a specialized officer for animal cruelty investigations, plays a crucial role in addressing complaints and facilitating arrests. The program's success reflects a growing commitment to animal rights in the region. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicions of animal cruelty by calling 911.
