MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to enhance the prevention and investigation of animal abuse. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasized the program's goal of rescuing animals from harmful situations and providing them with necessary medical care. Since its launch in September, nearly 70 agencies have enrolled, training over 460 officers, resulting in more successful rescues and increased accountability for offenders. Vasconi, who has a profound passion for animal welfare, noted that animals depend on humans for their basic needs. The training program was developed in partnership with Pasado's Safe Haven, which has contributed significantly to its success.
Participants have reported positive experiences, indicating the program's impact on law enforcement practices. The Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi, addresses numerous animal cruelty complaints each year, often leading to arrests and rescues. Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty immediately by calling 911.
