MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department has implemented an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aimed at rescuing abused animals and holding offenders accountable, training over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the program's primary goal is to remove animals from harmful situations and provide them with the necessary medical care. Developed in partnership with Pasado's Safe Haven, the training curriculum has demonstrated impressive outcomes since its inception in September. Vasconi, who has a lifelong passion for animal welfare, noted that animals depend on humans for basic needs and deserve compassion. The Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi as a reserve officer, focuses on investigating and enforcing laws against animal cruelty.
Each year, he responds to numerous complaints, often leading to arrests and rescues. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to animal rights within the community. Residents are encouraged to call 911 immediately if they suspect animal cruelty.
