MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to combat animal abuse, with nearly 70 agencies now enrolled and over 460 officers trained. Officer Dave Vasconi, passionate about animal welfare, leads the initiative, focusing on rescuing animals and ensuring they receive medical care. Since its launch in September, the program has successfully increased the number of animals saved and offenders held accountable. Vasconi expressed his appreciation for the contributions of Rebecca Winnier and D. B.
Gates, who played key roles in developing the curriculum. The training equips officers with the skills necessary for effective investigation and enforcement of animal cruelty laws. Marysville's Community Service Unit, which includes a reserve officer specializing in animal crimes, responds to numerous cruelty complaints annually. The program signifies a significant step toward enhancing community awareness and accountability regarding animal welfare. Residents are urged to report any suspected cases of animal cruelty by calling 911 immediately.
