MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department has initiated an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to combat local animal abuse effectively. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's main objective: to rescue animals from abusive situations and provide them with essential medical care. Since its launch in September, the program has enrolled nearly 70 agencies and trained over 460 officers, resulting in more animals being saved and offenders held accountable. The department partnered with Pasado’s Safe Haven to develop the training curriculum, which has garnered positive feedback from participants. Vasconi, passionate about animal welfare, noted that animals depend on humans for their basic needs and deserve compassion.
Marysville's Community Service Unit handles numerous animal cruelty complaints each year, often leading to arrests and rescues. Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty by calling 911 immediately. This proactive approach enhances community awareness and fosters a safer environment for vulnerable animals.
