MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its launch in September. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's goal of rescuing animals from abusive situations and ensuring they receive necessary medical care and new homes. Developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, the initiative aims to prevent animal cruelty and hold offenders accountable. Since its inception, the program has led to an increase in rescued animals and arrests of abusers. Vasconi expressed his lifelong commitment to animal welfare, emphasizing their reliance on humans for care and compassion.

The Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi as a dedicated officer, responds to numerous animal cruelty complaints each year. Residents are urged to report any suspected cruelty by calling 911. This proactive approach reflects a growing awareness and commitment to animal rights in the Marysville community.
