WSDOT Plan ahead for a busy Fourth of July travel weekend

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) warns of significant travel congestion during the Fourth of July weekend, advising travelers to plan ahead. This year, WSDOT will not issue its typical holiday travel charts due to a lack of historical hourly vehicle volume data, as retention laws led to the deletion of past records. Instead, travelers should utilize WSDOT's online tools and social media for real-time updates and safety information. Heavy traffic is expected on July 3-4, with a busy return on July 6-7, as people travel statewide. Most highway construction will pause during the holiday weekend, but travelers should remain alert for ongoing work zones that may still affect traffic flow.

Ferry travel will also be impacted, with longer wait times anticipated, especially for vehicle passengers. WSDOT encourages travelers to identify rest areas and prepare for delays due to increased traffic and emergency repairs. Reservations for ferry routes are recommended to avoid long lines and ensure timely travel.
