Veteran Snohomish County bus driver won first-place title for second time in International Bus Roadeo event

Matt Chomjak, a veteran bus driver with Community Transit, won first place at the 2025 International Bus Roadeo, marking his second victory in this esteemed competition. He attributes his success to his deep passion for driving, stating, “Absolutely nothing” about his job displeases him. The International Bus Roadeo, organized by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), showcases the skills of public transit drivers through a challenging obstacle course. Chomjak joined Community Transit in 2001, inspired by a passing bus, and after winning his first roadeo, he has continued to excel in numerous competitions. He transitioned to a training instructor role but returned to driving, showcasing his competitive spirit.

Chomjak’s rigorous mental preparation, including visualizing the course, helped him achieve a near-perfect run. Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz commended Chomjak’s dedication and skill, emphasizing his representation of the organization’s values. Chomjak’s achievements affirm his reputation as one of North America’s top bus drivers.
