Washingtons Legislature, by the numbers

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Washington Legislature is preparing for a critical 105-day session, commencing soon, as lawmakers confront a substantial budget deficit estimated between $10 billion and $12 billion. A total of 147 representatives and senators will convene, including 31 new members resulting from significant turnover. With Democrats holding majorities in both chambers—30 Democrats and 19 Republicans in the Senate, and 59 Democrats and 39 Republicans in the House—the legislative agenda will be shaped accordingly. The session will feature around 274 pre-filed bills, with committees meeting regularly to review proposed legislation and set deadlines for progression. Key cutoff dates have been established to maintain momentum, culminating in the final deadline on April 27.

Lawmakers will focus on the budget as well as other significant legislative matters, making decisions that will have lasting impacts on the state's governance and finances.
