Help an American hero Donate during Nov. 11 fundraiser to train service dogs for veterans with PTSD

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Mountlake Terrace American Legion Post 234 will host a fundraiser on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, from noon to 4 p. m. at Diamond Knot Brewpub to benefit Northwest Battle Buddies, which trains service dogs for veterans with PTSD. Attendees can make cash donations while enjoying food, with a portion of proceeds going to the cause.

Each service dog costs $25,000 to train, but veterans receive them at no charge, thanks to fundraising efforts. “Every dollar raised today brings us closer to helping another veteran in need,” stated Tom Smith from Edmonds American Legion Post 66. The service dogs provide invaluable support, helping veterans manage symptoms of PTSD and combat social isolation. Since its inception in 2012, Northwest Battle Buddies has successfully trained and matched 300 dogs with veterans. Shannon Walker, the organization's CEO, highlighted the importance of community contributions in aiding American heroes.

The event emphasizes the need for local support in addressing veterans' mental health challenges.
