Edmonds SnoKing AAUW to host Nov. 8 program on Black women in WA civil rights movement
The Edmonds SnoKing Branch of the American Association of University Women will host a presentation titled “We Are Also in Bondage Here: Black Women in the Washington Civil Rights Movement” on November 8 at Edmonds College. The event is scheduled from 10 a. m. to noon in Snohomish Hall Room 338. Quin’Nita Cobbins-Modica will lead the discussion, emphasizing the crucial role of Black women in the civil rights movement during the 1960s.
These women were key figures in campaigns aimed at dismantling racial segregation and discriminatory practices across Washington state. By highlighting their contributions, the program seeks to educate attendees about the historical significance of Black women's activism. The event also serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for social justice and equality. Local residents are encouraged to attend to gain insight into this important aspect of civil rights history. This initiative represents a broader effort to amplify underrepresented voices in educational spaces.
