Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Edmonds Theater will host a screening of "Stripped for Parts" on October 25, a documentary by Rick Goldsmith that examines the detrimental effects of hedge fund takeovers on local newspapers. In the last 20 years, approximately 2,000 newspapers have closed, creating significant news deserts across the U. S. After the film, a panel featuring local journalism leaders will engage with the audience about the future of journalism and its local impact. Panelists include Jody Brannon, who has held leadership roles in digital news, Alex Bruell, a former editor with a decade of experience, and Brenda Mann Harrison, president-elect of the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County.

Jaime Méndez and Michael Whitney will also contribute their insights on local news. Tickets for the event are priced at $25, with additional donations encouraged to support local journalism efforts. An anonymous donor will match contributions up to $5,000 through October 31. This event emphasizes the critical need for community support of local news.
