Cedar Way Elementary School parent sues after son loses fingertip in classroom incident
A Cedar Way Elementary parent has filed a lawsuit in Snohomish County Superior Court against the Edmonds School District, the principal, and a former special education teacher after her son lost the tip of his finger during a classroom incident. The 10-year-old boy, diagnosed with ADHD and Oppositional Defiance Disorder, asked for a break but was dismissed by special education teacher Mary Evarone. When he attempted to follow her out, a heavy metal door was forcefully shut, severing his finger tip. The lawsuit claims that the school staff provided no communication about the incident despite multiple inquiries from the mother. Principal Chris Lindblom allegedly stated that the insurance company would contact her but did not offer further details.
After returning to school, the child was placed back in the same classroom, expressing feelings of unsafety, prompting his transfer to another school. Attorney Chris Davis emphasized that the incident was preventable and criticized the school's handling of the situation. Evarone is no longer employed at Cedar Way Elementary.
