South County Fire to hold public hearings Oct. 21 on 2026 budget and benefit charge
The South County Fire Board will hold public hearings on Oct. 21 at 7 p. m. to discuss its proposed 2026 budget and benefit charge. The budget aims to meet growing community demands while keeping costs low, shifting funding toward a benefit charge based on building size and risk.
The average homeowner will see an increase of just over $7 per month, which will support hiring 30 new firefighters and six administrative staff. The proposed property tax levy rate is set at $1. 15 per $1,000 of assessed property value, a decrease from the previous year. This strategy maintains South County Fire's status as one of the lowest-cost emergency service providers in Snohomish County. Residents can participate in the hearings at South County Fire Headquarters or remotely via Zoom, with login details available online.
Comments can also be submitted in advance to the Board of Commissioners' Executive Assistant. This budget reflects the board's commitment to balancing community needs with fiscal responsibility.
