Marina breakwater cleaning set for Oct. 14 at Port of Edmonds

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Port of Edmonds and South County Fire will conduct a cleaning of the marina breakwater on Tuesday, Oct. 14, using Marine 16, the fire/rescue boat based at the Port of Edmonds Marina. Marine 16 will spray water to eliminate built-up bird droppings, which generate unpleasant odors in the area. This operation not only addresses sanitation concerns but also serves as a training exercise for firefighters to practice their skills in a confined space while maneuvering a moving vessel. The Port of Edmonds has coordinated with the USDA to avoid disrupting local wildlife, scheduling the cleaning to occur outside the shorebird nesting season.

A USDA representative conducted a visual survey of the breakwater before the cleaning. The marina will remain open during the operation, and boaters are urged to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance from Marine 16. This initiative highlights the Port's commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for both wildlife and marina users. The collaboration between the Port and South County Fire underscores the dual benefits of public service and training in local operations.
