Bruce Evans High school teacher, coach made lasting impression on generations of Edmonds youth

Robert Bruce Evans, an esteemed educator and coach, passed away on August 17, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by his wife and children. He dedicated over three decades to teaching English and journalism at Woodway High School, where he was known for his engaging teaching style and ability to connect with students. In addition to his teaching career, Evans coached the women's basketball team, leading them to numerous conference championships and earning induction into the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2025. His commitment to sports and mentorship inspired generations of athletes, many of whom credited him as their best teacher. In retirement, Evans remained active in sports, participating in the Senior Softball Circuit and winning regional and national championships.

He also published a semi-autobiographical novel in 2022, reflecting on a life rich in experiences and local culture. His legacy lives on through the impact he made on students and athletes alike. Evans's contributions to education and sports will be remembered fondly by the Edmonds community.
