Neighbors volunteer to improve Scriber Creeks ongoing health and visual appeal
In a successful community initiative, residents Jeanne Aldrich and Val Taylor revitalized a 900-square-foot section of Scriber Creek in Lynnwood, enhancing its ecological health and visual appeal. The project, which began in 2023, now supports a variety of native species, attracting local wildlife like chickadees and nuthatches. The City of Lynnwood contributed plants and guidance, ensuring the restoration adhered to environmental regulations. Derek Fada, the City’s Environmental Supervisor, noted that plans for mechanical removal of invasive species like reed canary grass are in progress, pending state approval. Aldrich and Taylor envision further improvements, including a bat box and educational materials to promote awareness of creek restoration.
They hope to create a model for community engagement in environmental projects. A community work party is set for October 11, inviting residents to help spread woodchips and participate in the ongoing efforts. Volunteers can bring tools and enjoy refreshments while contributing to the neighborhood's green space.
