Partnering with Edmonds School District, Housing Hope to break ground Oct. 1 on Scriber Place
Housing Hope and the Edmonds School District will break ground on Scriber Place, a new housing community for 52 families experiencing homelessness, on October 1. Located on a 2. 20-acre plot, this initiative addresses the critical need for stable housing in a district with over 600 homeless families. Housing Hope has a history of providing housing and supportive services to promote stability and self-sufficiency. According to a study by Schoolhouse Washington, students facing homelessness experience academic challenges, emphasizing the importance of this project.
CEO Kathryn Opina highlighted the collaboration with various partners, making this the first project of its kind in Washington state. Families must enroll in the McKinney-Vento program to qualify for housing openings. Funding will come from federal Project Based Section 8 Vouchers, with Housing Hope assisting families in understanding eligibility. This project represents a significant step towards addressing homelessness and improving student outcomes in the Edmonds School District.
