Lotera celebration Oct. 4 marks Hispanic Heritage Month

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District is set to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a Lotería event on October 4, from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. at Lynnwood Elementary School.

Lotería is a bingo-like game where players mark pictures on a board as a caller draws cards, reciting hints about the symbols. Originating in Spain, the game transitioned from a pastime of the elite to a beloved activity across all social classes in Latin America, particularly gaining popularity in Mexico during the mid-18th century. This celebration aims to foster community engagement and promote cultural understanding through interactive play. Participants will not only enjoy the game but also learn about its rich history and significance. The event exemplifies the Edmonds School District's commitment to honoring diverse cultures.

Attendees can visit the district's website for information on future events. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month through such activities emphasizes the importance of cultural appreciation in local communities.
