Now through Oct. 25 Anonymous reader offers 5K match for Stripped for Parts documentary donations

Lynnwood, WALocal News

An anonymous donor will match donations up to $5,000 for My Neighborhood News Network in conjunction with the "Stripped for Parts" documentary screening on Oct. 25 at the Edmonds Theater. The documentary, directed by Rick Goldsmith, reveals how hedge funds have taken control of numerous local newspapers, resulting in significant newsroom cuts and the closure of 2,000 papers across the U. S. in the last two decades.

The screening starts at 11 a. m. and includes a panel discussion moderated by MNNN President Teresa Wippel, featuring industry experts like Jody Brannon and Alex Bruell. The event, co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County, emphasizes the importance of supporting local journalism. Tickets cost $25, and attendees are encouraged to contribute additional donations, which will be matched until the screening date.

This initiative seeks to ensure accessible, paywall-free news for South Snohomish County residents. The decline of local journalism has led to the emergence of news deserts, making this fundraising effort crucial for community information.
