Prep football Warriors knock off Bearcats in key Wesco win

Lynnwood, WASports

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors claimed a 16-8 victory over the Monroe Bearcats, challenging the Bearcats' long-standing dominance in the 3A Wesco League South Conference. Senior Cruz Escandon caught two touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback George Gizzi, contributing to a strong offensive effort despite the close score. The E-W defense also played a pivotal role, achieving three sacks and forcing a fumble late in the game when Monroe was driving for a potential tying score. Monroe managed to score through a touchdown pass from Chris Britt to Jacob Jutte, along with a successful two-point conversion. This victory is particularly meaningful for the Warriors, who had suffered significant losses to Monroe in previous seasons.

Coach Roth highlighted the team's unity and determination leading up to the game, which they had been anticipating since preseason. With this win, the Warriors now hold a 2-0 record overall and 1-0 in their conference. Looking ahead, Edmonds-Woodway aims to build on this momentum as they prepare to face the Everett Seagulls next.
