Should cannabis stores be legal in Lynnwood? Share your thoughts Sept. 8

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Lynnwood City Council invites residents to public hearings on Sept. 8 about possibly lifting a cannabis sales ban instituted in 2015. The council will also consider annexing the former Alderwood Middle School property, with votes on both matters scheduled for Sept. 8 and Sept. 22, respectively.

Councilmember George Hurst, who proposed the repeal, has been advocating for this change for over a year after a previous attempt failed in 2021. In addition to these issues, the council will review an ordinance clarifying residency requirements for elected officials, prompted by recent controversies involving council members' residency statuses. Former Councilmember Julieta Altimarano-Crosby resigned after being elected to another position, raising questions about dual office holding. The meeting is significant as it addresses both local governance and community input on cannabis regulation. The full agenda will be available online, and the meeting will be livestreamed.

The session begins at 6 p. m. at Lynnwood City Hall.
