Lynnwood council to refine cannabis ordinance, revisit residency requirements Sept. 2

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Lynnwood City Council will meet on September 2 to review a proposed retail cannabis ordinance and the annexation of the former Alderwood Middle School property located at 20000 28th Ave. W. This follows the council's directive on July 14 to draft a cannabis sales ordinance, with a public hearing slated for September 8. The Boundary Review Board of Snohomish County has already approved the annexation, which the Edmonds School District seeks to streamline permitting for a new middle school facility. Councilmember Patrick Decker will also present a draft ordinance to amend city code on qualifications for elected office, clarifying residency requirements and prohibiting councilmembers from holding other elective positions.

The council's actions could impact local governance and the future of cannabis sales in Lynnwood. The meeting is set for 6 p. m. at Lynnwood City Hall, and interested parties can participate via livestream. The outcome of the council's deliberations will shape both educational infrastructure and cannabis policy in the community.
