Foundation for Edmonds School District surpasses goal to save music programs

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Foundation for Edmonds School District raised $302,000 for its Save the Arts Campaign, surpassing its initial fundraising goal. The campaign is designed to counter projected budget cuts that threatened music education in the district. By securing funds, the district can maintain eight music classes, including jazz, orchestra, and choir, providing essential opportunities for students. Philanthropist Rick Steves highlighted the community's generosity in supporting this initiative. Tam Osborne, the district’s manager of visual and performing arts, stressed the critical role of music education in developing skills like teamwork and discipline.

The campaign will cover 1. 5 full-time equivalent positions across eight schools, directly impacting over 80 students in specific programs. The Foundation's Executive Director, Deborah Brandi, noted the clear message from the community: music matters. This collective effort ensures that students can continue to thrive in a nurturing educational environment.
