Council to address budget woes at July 28 meeting
The Lynnwood City Council is set to vote on rule changes and address a $9. 4 million budget deficit during its meeting on July 28. City documents indicate a $5. 2 million deficit through the second quarter of 2025, attributed to shortfalls in sales tax, development permits, and photo-enforced tickets. The mayor is collaborating with city staff to implement a 13% reduction in spending to close the budget gap.
Proposed changes by the council's "Rules Task Group" would allow members to attend up to ten meetings remotely. Councilmembers Josh Binda, Patrick Decker, and Nick Coelho participated in developing these procedural updates. The council will also hold two executive sessions that are closed to the public. An updated general fund forecast is in development to reflect zero growth for 2024 revenue sources and current departmental reductions. The meeting will be held at Lynnwood City Hall and streamed online for public access.
