Volunteers needed Red Cross helps down the street and across the state

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The American Red Cross urgently seeks volunteers to bolster its Disaster Response Teams, particularly in light of rising fire risks across Washington state. Recent incidents, including house fires in Shoreline, highlight the local need for immediate assistance. Volunteers provide essential support by stocking emergency shelters, distributing supplies, and aiding emergency responders. Betsy Robertson noted that dry conditions and gusty winds have led to increased fire danger warnings. Many volunteers come from the retiree community, benefiting from more flexible schedules.

Various roles are available, accommodating different time commitments and skill sets, with training provided. The organization remains committed to recruiting volunteers year-round to maintain readiness for both local and larger-scale emergencies. As Robertson stated, "Whatever your skill set — there’s going to be something for you in the Red Cross.
