Los Angeles, CALocal News

Michele Siqueiros has been appointed as the founding CEO of the L. A. Local News Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing independent journalism in Los Angeles. Previously, Siqueiros led the Campaign for College Opportunity, transforming it into a leading advocacy organization and securing over $6 billion in state funding for higher education. The initiative was created in response to the significant decline in local journalism resources and the rise of misinformation, aiming to provide essential news coverage for the city's diverse communities.

Siqueiros highlighted the transformative power of reliable local information in her vision for the initiative. With over $17 million raised from media and philanthropy leaders, the initiative will support local newsrooms and partnerships to enhance coverage at various levels. It seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and ensure accountability in reporting, addressing the pressing challenges facing Los Angeles.
