Addressing Homelessness SaMo Bridge diversion program to open in April
The SaMo Bridge program is launching in Santa Monica, offering a new diversion option for individuals charged with low-level crimes. Located near the Civic Auditorium, the program features a 24/7 respite hub aimed at providing support and resources to those experiencing homelessness or behavioral health issues. Instead of facing jail time, individuals can opt for this respite hub, where they can access case management services provided by Exodus Recovery Inc. Participants will work with case managers to develop a 90-day care plan focused on housing and treatment. Successful completion of this plan can lead to the dismissal of misdemeanor charges, incentivizing engagement with the program.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the city to address homelessness through innovative and sustainable solutions. Funded by a state grant, SaMo Bridge highlights the city's commitment to finding alternatives to incarceration. The program's pilot phase will last three years, and updates will be shared with the community to track its progress.
