Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Operation Planned for March 14, 2025

Los Angeles, CALocal News

The Santa Monica Police Department will conduct a focused traffic safety operation on March 14, 2025, from 5 a. m. to 4 p. m. to combat dangerous driver behaviors that pose risks to pedestrians and bicyclists.

This initiative aims to address critical violations such as speeding, illegal turns, and failing to yield. Emphasizing shared road responsibility, the SMPD encourages all users to remain vigilant and considerate. For pedestrians, using crosswalks, wearing reflective clothing, and being aware of traffic are essential safety tips. Drivers are reminded to slow down, yield to pedestrians, and avoid blocking crosswalks. Bicyclists are also urged to follow traffic laws and prioritize safety gear, including helmets and lights.

This traffic safety operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, underlining the importance of community engagement in road safety efforts. Such initiatives are vital in fostering safer environments for all modes of transportation.
