Annual Black History Greens Festival celebrates the community legacy of Virginia Avenue Park

Santa Monica will celebrate its rich cultural heritage with the 10th annual Black History Greens Festival on February 22, 2025, at Virginia Avenue Park. This event, free to the public, is part of the city's Black History Month programming and is themed "Roots and Reflections: Community Legacy of Virginia Avenue Park. " It honors key figures in the community, such as Nat Trives, the first Black American Mayor, and other local heroes who contributed to the park's creation. Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities, including greens cooking demonstrations by local chefs, family activities, and wellness resources. The festival will feature a performance by the Calvary Baptist Church Gospel Choir and a special book reading session.

With the participation of local vendors and resource booths, the event aims to promote community engagement and awareness of Black history. Special guest Arron “BOBO” Arnell will return as master of ceremonies, adding a vibrant touch to the festival.
