Trump was target of an apparent assassination attempt at his Florida golf club, FBI says

Los Angeles, CALocal News

On September 15, 2024, Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt while golfing at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida, as confirmed by the FBI. This alarming event took place just two months after Trump survived a shooting incident at a rally in Pennsylvania. According to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, the gunman, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh from Hawaii, was armed with an AK-style rifle and was hiding approximately 400 to 500 yards away from Trump. Secret Service agents responded to the threat, firing at Routh as he pointed his weapon at the former president. After dropping the firearm and fleeing in an SUV, Routh was apprehended in a neighboring county.

Trump reassured his supporters via email, stating that he was safe and vowed to continue his campaign without fear. The incident has led to renewed scrutiny over the Secret Service's protective measures, especially given the recent history of threats against Trump. As the campaign season intensifies, questions about security protocols for high-profile candidates are increasingly pertinent.
