Santa Monica's Housing and Human Services Department reported significant strides in addressing homelessness during the Annual Homelessness Report presented to the City Council on May 14. The report outlines initiatives like the SMFD WISE Case Management Program, which has connected 22 at-risk seniors to vital services since its September 2023 launch. Funding for SAMOSHEL increased, allowing all 60 beds to be dedicated to local homeless individuals, with the shelter now operating around the clock for referrals. The Homeless Liaison Program Team plays a crucial role in outreach and enforcement, working alongside various organizations to assist those in need. In 2023, the Multi-Disciplinary Outreach Teams engaged with over 8,000 individuals and facilitated 56 housing placements.

The city also formalized a partnership with the Salvation Army to enhance 311 outreach efforts for homelessness-related requests. Furthermore, the Homeless Support Team pilot program collected 91 tons of debris in public spaces, indicating proactive measures against homelessness. These comprehensive initiatives underscore Santa Monica's commitment to innovative solutions for homelessness.
