Mayor Bass Marks Veterans Day as Los Angeles Continues Making Historic Progress on Veterans Homelessness

Los Angeles, CALocal News

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass marked Veterans Day by underscoring the city's ongoing efforts to combat Veteran homelessness. Since taking office, she has facilitated a 23% reduction in Veteran homelessness, thanks to new federal reforms that allow Veterans to receive both disability benefits and housing assistance. The House Our Vets initiative has successfully housed over 360 Veterans, boasting a 99% retention rate through the HUD-VASH program. Bass will recognize these Veterans at an event on November 16. The initiative collaborates with local organizations to encourage landlords to accept HUD-VASH vouchers.

Additionally, the city has recorded a historic decline in overall homelessness for two consecutive years. Bass's Inside Safe initiative has also contributed to thousands of permanent housing placements. Her administration continues to prioritize urgent actions to further support Veterans in need.
