Mayor Bass Appoints Jaime Moore As LAFD Fire Chief
Mayor Karen Bass appointed Jaime Moore as the new Fire Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department after a nationwide search. Moore, a seasoned firefighter with over 30 years of experience, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and highlighted his commitment to the city. He aims to enhance disaster preparedness, particularly for major events like the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the 2028 Olympics. Improving morale and adopting innovative technologies are also key components of his agenda. Interim Chief Ronnie Villanueva has already initiated significant reforms, including better wildfire training and communication upgrades.
Moore will review and implement recommendations from the After-Action Review Report to further strengthen the department. If confirmed by the City Council, he will be the second Latino and the first Spanish-speaking Fire Chief in the department's history. Mayor Bass praised Villanueva for his leadership during challenging times, underscoring the importance of public service.
